Can You Help?

Sonora RoseSonora Rose is a miracle.

Babies born with the rare and serious congenital heart defect Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome are blue babies, operated on immediately. Sonora Rose wasn’t diagnosed for nine months! (Talk about falling through the cracks!)

Since her diagnosis, Sonora Rose has had five open-heart surgeries. At present she is on oxygen. Scheduled Surgery #4 was to be her final one. It didn’t work. Emergency Surgery #5 (the same day) was to undo Surgery #4. Doctors are hopeful she can live until four or five without additional surgery. (Obviously more will be required!) Sonora Rose is two years old.

This past June, on their way to one of Sonora Rose’s many doctor’s appointments, their car’s tire blew out in a construction zone, went out of control, and rolled. Kathryn — fueled by adrenaline and a mother’s protective instinct — climbed out the driver side window of her upside down car, crawled to the other side, broke through the glass window (seriously injuring her arm) to free her daughter. They both survived. The car did not.

Because Sonora Rose requires constant hands-on care (and has lots of doctors appointments), Kathryn, Sonora Rose’s mother, is unable to work. (Sonora Rose’s father chose not to be a part of her life.) How then to acquire a replacement car?

‘Tis the season of Miracles. ‘Tis also the season of Giving. Let’s keep the two alive by helping Sonora Rose’s mother get a new car by getting them on the Ellen Show. PLEASE take a few moments to help by emailing (or writing) Ellen Degeneres.

Ellen–This is the miraculous story of Sonora Rose Atwater.

Sonora Rose has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare and serious congenital heart defect. Even rarer is the fact she remained undiagnosed for 9 months — unheard of in the medical community — as babies born with this condition are blue babies and operated on immediately.

Sonora Rose has now had five open heart surgeries. Scheduled Surgery #4 was to be her final one. It didn’t work. Emergency Surgery #5 (the same day) was to undo Surgery #4. She is currently on oxygen. She requires additional heart surgery. (Without it she can expect to live until she is four [maybe five] years old.) Sonora Rose is two-years old.

Sonora Rose and her mother were in a bad car accident in June when their car rolled over after a tire blow out in a construction zone on Hwy 62. They both survived. Their car did not.

Sonora Rose requires constant monitoring and care so her mother, Kathryn, is unable to work. Getting a replacement car is beyond her means. You can help in a way very few others could (or would). Here’s hoping you will. *smiles*

    A heart wrenching story.
I have liked the FB page and written my ‘letter’ to Ellen.
Let’s hope that something can be done to help this child and her mother. A new car is the least they deserve
