If the shoe doesn’t fit, take it off.
If you’re not going to wear it, get rid of it.
Seems like common sense. Yet how many ideas or beliefs still playing in your head no longer fit, assuming they ever did?
*I’m not good enough, so why bother trying?
*I need to be perfect, so “They’ll” like me.
*I just know “They’re” laughing at me.
*I’m too stupid to learn.
*There’s no way I can do this.
When an idea or belief doesn’t fit, you can always eject it from your mind. If you’re uncertain, ask yourself three questions:
1. Is this mine? (Often ideas & beliefs were given to you when young, be it from family, friends, television, movies, school, or the like. )
2. Do I want to claim this as mine? (There are times when an idea or belief appeals to you, so you decide to make it your own.)
3. Is this benefiting me in a way I want?
If you answer “no” to all three questions, you’re ready to get rid of that idea or belief. By recognizing your readiness, you’ve just taken a huge step to making it happen. Congratulations!
