Sour Cream Coffee Cake Recipe, Gramps’ Favorite

    Sour Cream Coffee Cake
    Batter:
    2 cups sifted flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 unsalted butter (1 cube)
    2 eggs (large)
    1 small carton sour cream (8 oz)
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Topping:
    1 c chopped walnuts
    1/3 c sugar [white OR brown]
    2 t cinnamon

    In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar, and sour cream; add eggs and vanilla and beat well. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl then add to creamed mixture; beat well. Generously grease an 8-inch sq. pan. Make topping by combining chopped nuts, sugar, and cinnamon. Pour in half the batter, sprinkle half the topping on top, repeat, ending with topping. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.
