Uses for Binder Clips

c344w binder clipsI love binder clips! Okay, I really love the Love of My Life, but let me tell you binder clips are an integral part of my life. They are so beepin’ useful, it’s great! I keep my stash in a repurposed wooden cigar box on my kitchen counter. (I also usually have a couple hanging around in my car and my purse … you never know when they’ll come in handy.)

I use two binder clips to hold the bags in place in the under-the-kitchen sink garbage receptacle.

In the olden days I had storage containers for everything in the kitchen. Some glass. Some plastic. Some ceramic. Now, when I open a bag of something, be it a salty, crunchy, greasy snack, cheese, dried fruit, cat food or anything else that comes in a bag, I seal the bag with binder clips. It’s great! No muss. No fuss. And not only does this use up less space than when I had everything in designated containers, there are no dishes to wash.

I use teeny-tiny binder clips as bookmarks and large binder clips for holding back a lot of pages in a book. (Good for when I’m reading while eating.)

I’ve used small binder clips to attach my hat (it has one of those “adjust-to-your-head” strings) to my shirt so it doesn’t blow away in the wind.

Medium size binder clips make great money clips. On occasion, I even dual-purposed it by clipping folded bills into my pockets. (This usually occurred during my efforts of traveling light — say from my home to the store and back. Haha)

I’ve used binder clips to hold shawls and sarongs in place as well as a place holder for a missing button.

I’ve used them as hair clips.

They’re great for holding clothes, hanging laundry, scarves, etc. in place. (They are much stronger than clothes pins.)

I’ve used them as toothpaste tube squeezers. They also make great weights. Clip a bunch of them at the end of fabric, curtains, etc., to keep them from flapping about. (While I don’t fish, I wonder if they’d work in a make-shift capacity of some sort. Anyone have experience with that?)

More recently I’ve taken to using binder clips to hang the cheesecloth so the whey can drip out and I’m left with a scrumptious soft white cheese.

I even use them for their “intended” purpose of holding groups of paper together.

Of course it didn’t occur to me to look on the web to see what others have used binder clips for until I was ready to post. When I did search (and found a fun link from buzzfeed), I decided to post anyway. After all, I’d already written it and was feeling pretty kindly towards binder clips.

I think you covered all the ways (and more I hadn’t thought of) I use them. I saw a video on them a couple of months ago that was spectacular (ways to use them I would NEVER have thought of) but don’t remember where I saw it…wish I had it to send you. If I ever see it again, I’ll be sure to send it to you.

Look forward to seeing it should you find it. *smiles*
